February Update - Problem Solved

The last weekend has been very eventful with the issues raised in the last update being solved - due to a worn glow plug the fuel ignition became intermittent when throttling back to idle causing excess fuel to be pumped into the combustion chamber resulting in the display of fire works from the tail cone and the massive increase in rpm.

It had also been noted that the gas and fuel valves are susceptible to the cold although this doesn't seem to have been the issue here - they are now wrapped in a warm blanket of foam - just the thing to keep them warm in this weather. Thanks again to Ryan at Mega models in Farnworth for their assistance with this!!

Once again suppliers are causing us problems with delayed deliveries - Peninsula Plastics are out of stock of the 1920mm x 760mm x 25mm blue foam sheets we need to complete the modelling of the bodywork so work has currently stopped on this until the new supplies arrive later this week. until this arrives we cant begin the carbon fibre moulding for the finished product. In fairness they have been very good in keeping us informed of availability - its just another one of those things.

When are you attempting the land speed record and where? I am designing a wheel driven car that will go pretty fast and should have it ready by September 07. I would like to give you a race for the top speed slot

Do you have any video/ photos of your build? How fast do you think you'll get to - i understand the record for an IC car is about 115mph at present?

We should arrange to get together at a suitable location for a straight line drag race - 1/4 mile?

I am in the design stage with the car and was hoping to enter the fastest RC car challenge in the USA but its at the end of July. i dont think my car will be ready by then.

The contest is for wheel driven cars so I am using a multiple engine design with max length 40" to stick to their rules.

The problems I have to overcome are as follows

The gearing is for 240Mph so the wheels will have to be custom

The run up and run out total length must be around 1 1/2 miles so i'm looking a speciality radio gear for the range. I have Kemle airfield in mind for the test

Steering above 130mph will have to be stabilised with Gyro and use a control surface such as a tail.

I have calulated the frotal area as no more than 0.02m^2 and need a custom bodyshell with a Cd of 0.25 or 0.2 (LOW!!)

This equates to a Hp requirement of 5.6 so 3 engines required.

I am aiming for a speed test in October this year. If you want we can get together and see who can get the fastest!!
